I play the character of Brother Jerimiah in something rotten.

I couldn’t find anything useful on brother Jeremiah so I have to use my imagination and the context on the script to figure out who is brother Jeremiah and what he’s like.

The script that I have read has mentioned that Brother Jeremiah is a magistrate, a magistrate is like a judge in court, but the most notable difference in between the two is that magistrates deal with less serious cases. In Jeremiahs case he’s a very religious man that works to keep the law and order, however we quickly learn that it is Jeremiah himself who has committed the most sins.

Jeremiah’s purpose in the piece is to apply pressure onto the bottom brothers to get there theatre shut down since he claims that “theatres are a scourge upon our land” but if read carefully you can notice a hidden meaning behind the script and jeremiah. He doesn’t just simply want to close the there’s down, in fact he loves it, he’s a perverted man who gets erections by watching “men dress as women and kiss other men” and he claims that the theatres are ungodly for such an act but he is committing the biggest sin of all by getting an election and enjoying this “filth and debauchery” as he calls it.

So with all of this in mind I decided that I would play brother Jeremiah as a really stuck up character who thinks he is above everyone and on the same level with God, ignoring his sins but still being aware that he has committed them.
