To fully develop the character of Jeremiah I have decided to use a deep, chest resonator so my voice sounded deep and stuck up, to add on to that I decided I wanted to look a bit higher than everyone to show that I look down on them.
Reading further into the script we find out that he gets on on everything he claims as “filth and debauchery” making him the most sinful person in the room/stage even though he’s a man of god. Jeremiah is a closeted pervert that those not want to admit his feelings towards all this but still finds it all too exhilarating and keeps on getting ahead of himself.
To show this perverted side of him I decided to play with the text and make it so that whenever he mentions anything perverted I would use my voice to show that and then add a little cough after the moment was done to show that Jeremiah is embarrassed and did not mean for that to slip out, a good example of this is when Jeremiah says “we cannot abide by such ungodly erections, I have seen it myself and it did stiffen my resolve” I decided to play with this and act as if I got an erection right there whilst starring at Robin who is dressed up like a woman, after I moved on from that line I added a little cough to insinuate that I as Jeremiah did not mean to let that slip out and am embarrassed and want to move on from that quickly.
the same sort of situation happens at the end of my final line when I’m talking and threatening Nick Bottom, I lean up above him and say “I will have you tied to a post, begging for mercy as I give you the rod” as I sat this line I get closer and closer to Nicks face adding comedic effect and making him feel uncomfortable as Jeremiah feels aroused, when I said give you the rod I made my voice deeper and deeper using my throat resonator to show me loosing my composure, and once I noticed this I took a moment to think back off, and did a fake cough to show that I’m embarrassed and need to move on from that topic allowing me to say “good day sir” with a bit of a less confident tone of voice as I leave the stage.
