I have taken some videos of us rigging up the lights with our teachers.
In both these videos there are countless safety hazards. For starters we are changing the lights so it is a necessity that technicians and official actors and whoever else is setting up the lights wears safety helmets, as if any of those lights fall and hit someones head, it will be quite messy to say the least, because those lights are decently heavy falling from a great big distance, and for the same reason it is important to wear steel toe cap shoes so that if anything falls or hits our feet we will be ok and not have any serious injuries. Another hazard that is encountered in situations like these are loose wires, loose wires are really quite dangerous, not as much to the performers but for the play as a whole, because if someone trips and falls, not only is it going to be bad for the play but its also going to injure the actor. It is the technicians job to ensure that all hazards have been dealt with accordingly and that it is safe for actors to move around in the space freely without risk of injury. and that is exactly why it is important for all actors to stay quiet during tech rehearsals, because if the technicians get distracted they might forget to fully rig a light or tie up a bundle of loose wires leaving huge hazards behind that could completely ruin a performance and maybe someones career.
Its is also important that actors keep fit, not only for better roles but for overall better healthcare and it will help when on stage, but they will also be doing a lot of physical exercises and warm-ups that can push oneself to the limit. They must also keep their voices well looked after as they will need it for projecting long distances and having good energy on stage, this is easily achieved by not smoking, not drinking alcohol, or soft drinks like Coke, or Pepsi, dairy products are also pretty bad for your voice as they will clog up your voice pipe muffling the sound. So good advice is to drink lots of water, keep to a healthy diet, avoid smoking and alcohol, and finally avoid dairy products before a performance
