I CONFIRM THAT THE WORK ATTACHED ASSESSMENT IS ALL MY OWN WORK AND DOES NOT INCLUDE ANY WORK COMPLETED BY ANYONE OTHER THAN MYSELF AND SOURCES HAVE BEEN APPROPRIATELY REFRENCED
NICOLAS TUFAILE FORSTMAN
Sean is the leader of the Bengal Tigers Gang.
Sean is well respected and feared by his opponents.
Sean has a thing for Theresa and is controlling and over protective when it comes to her.
Sean sees Thomas as a threat that can take Theresa away from him.
Sean sees Jimmy as a nuisance/threat that wants to take his place as leader.
Sean sees Polly as a mascot, or a pet.
Sean might have a job, and probably works in the mills.
Sean is level headed, think first then act kind of guy.
Sean respects the strong.
Sean’s preferred weapon is his belt and is never seen using any other kind of weapon, or his fists.
Sean is not a good dancer.
Sean is a good fighter.
Sean is a tactician
Sean listens to the input of the other gang members (especially Theresa)
all of the gang members follow Sean’s orders without question (apart from jimmy and his troupes)
Sean cares about Polly and Theresa (probably cares for Margret too but they don’t interact much)
I will apply all of these as a starting point for my character so I can roughly block the scenes with him and the way he acts.
If my character was an animal what animal would he be and why?
He would be a wolf, in particular a Alpha wolf because, wolves are pack animals by nature and alpha wolves are the leaders, nurturing and caring for their pack (like how Sean if towards Polly and Theresa) but they are the ultimate leaders of their pack and if they are challenged they will prove their worth and their power, on top of that they are powerful by themselves but over all dominate in a fight as a group and that’s how they fight.
He would be a Tiger because, even though they are not kings like lions, they are the strongest creature in the jungle and their roar alone can paralyze smaller creatures, and Sean like tigers use strategy to fight their opponent/prey.
He would be a crocodile/alligator because he is patient and calculated. he thinks about when its the right time to strike so he can end a fight with ease and get his prey by surprise. Crocodile and alligators also have the strongest bite force in the entire animal kingdom which to Sean it correlates as strength.
If my character was a tree/ plant what tree/plant would he be?
He would be an Oak tree because, oak trees are one of the strongest most toughest trees of hardwood to cut through and one of the biggest and most popular of the hardwood family, which is relevant to Sean because everyone knows him and he is unbeatable and unbreakable.
He would be a foxglove plant because, they are toxic however are used in cardiac medicine (medicine to treat heart conditions) they are toxic if taken incorrectly. This can be turned to Sean because he is good to his gang but if you get on his bad side, if you’re in his gang or not, he will fight you, and he will win.
If my character was a fruit what fruit would he be?
He would be a pineapple because, pineapples are tough on the outside and prickly and can hurt you but, they are soft on the inside, the the outside perspective Sean is hard to get to know and he is not nice and definitely comes off as intimidating, but to the people that are close to him they see his softer side such as some of his gang members whilst still having a degree of fear and respect of him.
If my character was in the military what would he be/do?
He would be a Tactician or a General because he plans the attacks and thinks the consequences over and how a certain action might effect an other or the people involved. and he is always at the front giving orders.
I will apply these to Sean by acting the way these animals or people do, and take attributes from the plants and trees.
I am going to lead with my head and chest because Sean is quite smart and tactical but also strong and brawny, so i thought it would be best for my character if I led with my head to show my more tactical, schemer side, and with some of my chest to show that I am suitable and worthy to be the leader of the Bengal Tigers gang and that I am the strongest around and its for no one to mess with me, because if they do, they’ll end up on the ground.
This will be applied to my character to show he is always thinking and that he is very aware on his next move, kind of like a professional chess player.
Character Backstory (creative process)
Sean Xander Barron was an only child who’s mother died at birth, and after his mother’s death his father became an alcoholic who was rarely ever sober. Sean’s father blames Sean everyday for his mother’s death and beats him with his belt whenever he was in a bad mood. When sean turened 9 he searched for an escape away from his drunken abusive father, Sean started making fights wherever he could around ancoats.
Of course Sean wasn’t perfect, he would often loose fights but a beating was nothing new to Sean so he kept coming back for more, this process strengthened him, made him stronger and more durable than most for a 9 year old. Sean quickly gained battle knowledge and advanced in fist fights by the age of 10, Sean never went to school because his father didn’t care for Sean’s future but luckily Sean has a high IQ and learns fast so he started to learn how to do things by watching others.
One day Sean decided that he wanted to fight someone bigger and stronger he often heard about The Bengal Fighters Gang so one day he encountered one of their members and challenged them to a fight with the promise that if Sean wins he’ll be able to join The Bengal Fighters. Sean lost the fight as up until now Sean has been fighting people close to the same age as him, but all The Bengal Fighters members were 6-8 years older than him. Sean kept coming back for the fight, he never gave up this went on for 6 months so Sean decided that he was going to change his tactic, he would sneak into his dad’s room and steal the belt he beat Sean with and use that belt as a weapon to win the fight. After many years of watching and experiencing his dad beat him with the belt he knew that belt pretty well and how to use it, so he engaged with the fight once more and this time he was able to beat the Bengal Fighters member, he welcome Sean in to the Bengal Fighters Gang, congratulated Sean for beating him and told Sean his name. His name was Mark. Mark was a high standing member of the gang and he was well respected, however once the rest of the gang heard that he lost to a kid that was 6 years younger than him some of the gang lost respect for Mark.
As Sean’s 11 birthday was coming soon in less than a months time Sean and Mark grew closer and Mark became a sort of adoptive father figure for Sean. Mark taught Sean how to read and write and he’d also teach Sean how to fight properly, hiw to spot someone’s weakness, how make a plan, how to be tactical, Sean hasn’t returned home since he got accepted in the gang, he’s always hated his father who made his life a living hell and wanted revenge so he practiced by fighting Mark at times, and by running out with the rest of the gang to fight their rival gang the Prussia Street gang after a year of fighting with the Bengal Fighters he returned home to get his revenge only to find out that he is too late, and that his Father died of Alcohol poisoning. Filled with nothing but hatred left in his heart unable to get revenge for all the awful torture he had to go through with his dad, Sean is left with only Mark to be his happy place. Sean didn’t know what to do anymore apart from sticking with his gang because they are the only family that he truly has.
4 more years pass and Sean is 16 he’s an excellent fighter and admired for his talent by the younger members of the gang and even some of the older ones, however Mark is looked down upon and is seen as “Soft” or “weak” and one day Sean gets into this big group fight and is there for a while. Mark is at his house when the leader of the gang comes and expresses his hatred for Mark saying that he betrayed them all by abandoning his role in pushing back Prussia Street to Teach me and to be my adoptive father. Mark shrugs it off as him just being drunk and saying a bunch of bullshit when the next day the gang leader picks a fight with Mark saying that if Mark looses he’s out of the Gang. Mark fought hard and won the fight, and his place in the gang, aswell as wining his place he also won the title of leader of the gang from the former leader, but the former leader wasn’t happy that he lost the fight so when marks back was turned he pulled a knife tackled Mark from behind and stabbed him over, and over, and over again. Everyone stared but didn’t intervine Sean pushed through to see his father figure being stabbed again, and again. In his rage and saddness Sean got his belt and beat the former gang leader until he was half dead. Sean went to check on Mark but Mark was dead when he got there. Sean won the title of leader of the Bengal Fighters Gang but left all alone with no father figure he decided that it was time for a change, to move from the horrible history this gang now had, so he renamed the gang, from The Bengal Fighter to The Bengal Tigers most of the older members in the gang weren’t happy that someone younger than them was now their leader and lots of them decided to leave the gang after witnessing what happened to Mark, others tried to take the title of leader away from Sean but none could so most of their members left. But others stayed, and others started to join like Theresa and Jimmy. They all fought together and Sean had a lot to learn to become a good leader. Another 4 years has passed and they have so many new members like Polly which has been growing up with them for the past couple of years, which leads to the present day (in the start of the play) where Sean is 20 and a much better leader than ever.
I will apply this to Sean by giving him a broken jaw from all of the fights hes been in and by his interactions with other characters and more specifically his reaction towards the knife since i make him out to be a sort of victim towards knife crime.

Sean’s first scene (18 – 20)
In this scene Sean is in the street with the rest of the tigers and the scene is opened with Jimmy telling a joke when everyone starts to laugh there’s Thomas, standing there eavesdropping. In response to this Sean and Jimmy start to interrogate him to figure out who he is, why he’s watching us. Sean and Jimmy quickly figure out hes a nobody, and starts to mess with him joking around and just generally taking the piss out of him.

Uta Hagen’s nine questions
1) Who am I?
I am Sean, the leader of the Bengal tigers gang.
2) What time is it?
Evening, around 8pm
3) where am I?
I am on the street with the rest of the tigers gang. Jersey street.
4) What surrounds me?
Mills, people, factories and the Bengal Tigers gang.
5) What are the given circumstances?
We are on the edge of Jersey street in the evening. Most if not all the tigers gang members are here, we meet Thomas who is eavesdropping on us and is always following us about. Thomas full name is Thomas Clayton, the same name as his dad. I am (Sean) the leader of the Bengal Tigers gang.
6) What are my relationships?
Jimmy is my friend, I am romantically interested in Theresa, Polly is like a little sister to me (our mascot and youngest member), Margret is our newest member in the gang so i am still getting to know her, I have no current relationship with Thomas but my first impression is that I don’t like him that much.
7) What do I want?
I want to find out who Thomas really is, why he has been watching us and following us about and what does he really want.
8) What is in my way?
Nothing is in my way, but i get side tracked when I find out that hes not a threat and start making fun of him and messing with him.
9) What do I do to get what I want?
I question Thomas and get my underlings to search his pockets for valuables.
What are my Units throughout the scene?
Unit 1
During my first unit I am just hanging out with the rest of the Tigers listening to Jimmy tell a joke about some one we beat up.
Unit 2
The Unit suddenly changes because we have been interrupted by an outsider who is not part of the gang. He was eavesdropping and me and Jimmy want to find out who he is, why he’s watching us and what he wants.
Unit 3
We find out he’s not a threat we should be afraid of but instead some nobody we can mess around with, so I crack a joke about how both him and his dad have the same name.
Unit 4
He suddenly says “well I know you” so I switch from the jokes and interrogate him some more to find out what he knows and why hes been watching us. I then crack another joke about his dad to try to get information out of him that way.
Unit 5
I go back to messing with him and joking around because its clear that he’s nobody that we don’t need to worry about.
Unit 6
I get an Idea to threaten him to make our time worthy, I got jimmy to search his pockets to find out if he has anything of value on him. I then tell him to “Bring me something better tomorrow if you want to follow me about” .
Unit 7
I am now just listening to Theresa rip into Jimmy for taking Thomas money and she makes a couple of jokes about him and humiliates him a bit, then I leave.
My super objective in this scene is to figure out who exactly Thomas Clayton is.

Sean’s second scene (30-35)
This scene takes place on the bridge in Jersey Street, Sean comes in with the Tigers and faces off against the Joe and George from the Prussia Street Gang. Jimmy disobeys my orders, Joe and George run away so I teach Jimmy a lesson for disobeying my orders.

Uta Hagen’s nine questions
1) who am I?
I am Sean, leader of the Bengal Tigers gang.
2) what time is it?
evening, around 8-9pm
3) Where am I?
Prussia Street End, the bridge.
4) What surrounds me?
The Tigers Gang members are behind me, some Prussia Street members are in front of me.
5) What are the given circumstances?
I (Sean) am trying to make out how many Prussia Street members are on the other side of the street. Fire from the Ironworks Lights up both sides of the bridge so we can each see each other clearly. Prussia Street have a soldier with them. The soldier on Prussia Street has a sword. Jimmy disobeys my orders to stay put and starts running to them, Theresa stops at the front and asks who that soldier is, Prussia Street falls back. I (Sean) have a stern talking to with Jimmy about how I call the shots and how he disobeyed my orders, I then punish Jimmy for disobeying my orders and set an example of what would happen if anyone else did what he did. Polly enjoys slapping Jimmy.
6) What are my relationships?
Jimmy is my friend but disobeys my orders so I need to put him in his place, I am still romantically interested in Theresa, Polly is like a pet to me and I use her to punish Jimmy, I am getting to know Margret a bit better, I am somewhat more accepting of Thomas however he has done nothing to show his worth to me yet.
7) What do I want?
I want to observe Prussia Street and find out how many members they have or how they would react to us.
8) What is in my way?
Jimmy is in my way disobeying my orders and running at them, ultimately Theresa runs up too however she just did it because we all had to start running up because Jimmy did.
9) What do I do to get what I want?
I watch Prussia Street carefully, however, when Jimmy ruins my plans I instead punish him and ridicule him to ensure he knows who is king of the street and not to disobey my orders again.
What are my Units Throughout the scene?
Unit 1
My first unit is me trying to find out how many members Prussia Street has out on the street right now.
Unit 2
My second unit is finding out they have a soldier on their side and how at first there was a tiny bit of panic but then I realize its only one and it’ll be easy.
Unit 3
My third Unit is giving out an order to not run up, to all the Tigers, Jimmy ignores my order so I pull him back and remind him who the leader of the gang is.
Unit 4
My fourth Unit is how I abandon my plan because Jimmy fully ignored my orders and decided to not listen to a word i said and run up the bridge.
Unit 5
My fifth unit is about me telling Jimmy how he disobeyed my orders and this gets on my nerves.
Unit 6
On my sixth unit i just about had enough of Jimmy’s shit and decided its time to teach him a lesson that he wont forget, especially if he ever tries to disobeys my orders ever again. I also take my belt off to threaten him with.
Unit 7
Jimmy has just insulted Polly, so instead of punishing him myself I get Polly to slap him in front of everyone to completely destroy his ego and make sure he doesn’t disobey me again, and I use that as an example for anyone that wants to disobey me again.
Unit 8
I tell Polly to stop slapping Jimmy as a form of ‘showing mercy’ to humiliate him even more in front of all the other tigers. then i exit.
My super objective in this scene is to carefully watch Prussia Streets movements to formulate a plan of attack.

Sean’s Third Scene (38 -42)
The third scene is set in the street, at night. The Tigers are partying, dancing and drinking, Sean tells Thomas to keep his distance off Theresa but Theresa knocks Sean’s ego down and so Sean quiets down. A man tries to get past us and shouts because Thomas bumped into him, Sean then takes his anger out on him and scares him off with his belt. the partying and dancing then stops and we split into two groups Sean Jimmy and another tiger are having a discussion about walking up jersey street, however Theresa Margret and Thomas start to go off, Sean tells Theresa he wants her there however they still go. Sean gives Polly and another Tiger chalk to mark up Prussia Streets territory. then Sean give another chalk to Jimmy.

Uta Hagen’s nine question
1) Who am I?
I am Sean, the leader of the Bengal Tigers Gang.
2) What time is it?
It is night time, most likely 11 – 12 pm.
3) Where am I?
On the street, in front of pubs.
4) What surrounds me?
People, workers, pubs, other tigers.
5) What are the given circumstances
I (Sean) am jealous of Thomas because he gets along so well with Theresa. I don’t like Theresa’s and Thomas’s relationship. There’s a lot of people on the street passing by, I got quite angry after being humiliated by Theresa and dish my anger out on a random man. The man had a knife, Thomas stole his knife. I steal his hat, we scare the man off. I, Jimmy, and another Tiger are discussing our plan against Prussia Street. I tell Polly and another Tiger to go and draw a mark on Prussia Streets territory with chalk.
6) What are my relationships?
I am Jealous of Thomas’s relationship with Theresa. I am wary of Jimmy and don’t trust him since hes a loose cannon. I am romantically interested in Theresa and am getting desperate to get her. I still think of Polly as a mascot but I appreciate her and trust her. I have gotten to know Margret better but she has annoyed me a bit.
7) What do I want?
I want to enjoy myself and later on start making moves against Prussia Street
8) Whats in my way?
Thomas gets in my way by ruining my fun and later on taking away Theresa and Margret.
9) What do I do to get what I want?
I take out my anger and frustration on a random man to enjoy myself again. I just go along with the plan without Theresa or Margret, I give chalk to Polly, a random Tiger and Jimmy to go mark Prussia Streets territory.
What are my Units throughout the scene?
Unit 1
Asserting dominance over Thomas and claim over Theresa.
Unit 2
Trying to impress Theresa but it doesn’t work out and puts me in a bad mood.
Unit 3
I am in a bad mood so I take it out on a random man that pushes by Thomas and complains about it.
Unit 4
I decide to mess around with him a bit since I am now in a better mood than before and steal his hat. then I threaten him with the snapping of my belt, scaring him off.
Unit 5
I claim that I don’t need a knife to beat someone and that my simple belt will do the job even better than the knife. I then start celebrating and everyone else follows and celebrates with me.
Unit 6
After our celebrating, it’s time for me to go back to being a gang leader, so I start to plan our next attack on Prussia Street with Jimmy and some other Tigers, until I notice Theresa trying to go off with Thomas when I want her here to create our plan and to be my best advisor. But I also want Theresa here because I really like her and don’t want to see her go off with Thomas.
Unit 7
My jealousy gets to me and I lay my claim on Theresa by grabbing her by the hair and kissing her, which she doesn’t take a fancy to.
Unit 8
I make the announcement that “I – am walking up Jersey Street tomorrow” in order to try to snap her back so she sides with me, and by doing this I call out what I have been planning and try to get her to take part in the plan. Theresa responds with her saying she’ll be right besides me tomorrow, but wont accompany me today.
Unit 9
Moving on from Theresa, as I know I’m not going to be able to change her mind, I go over to Polly and give her, her orders. I order Polly to go and invade Prussia Streets territory and mark their territory with our mark basically saying, come get us, calling for a fight. I also instruct another Tiger to do the same. I am drawing our mark on the floor so they know what to draw.
Unit 10
I watch Theresa run off with Thomas, and in a moment of weakness I frown and let my emotions of sadness slip for a mere second, which Polly sees and comments trying to comfort me.
Unit 11
I revert back to the strong, emotionless, tactical leader I am and ask her “What are you talking about?” as if it was all an illusion that she imagined because a leader is supposed to lead by example and supposed to be strong. If the rest of the Tigers find out and hear of this moment of weakness from me they’ll loose respect for me. I tell Polly to run off and then I am left alone with Jimmy where he once again questions if we’ll win, so I give very simple orders for him so that his simpleton brain can understand enforcing our victory.
Unit 12
Jimmy tries to defy my orders before even executing them basically saying, ‘I really don’t care what you think Sean’ which I respond with “Well… its a good thing I’m leading the Tigers out and not you then, isn’t it?”
My super objective in this scene is to have fun with Theresa, and towards the end of the night to make a plan to counter attack Prussia Street, and how to deal with the soldier with the sword they have on their side.

Sean’s Fourth scene (73 -77)
This scene takes place directly after the previous scene which is when Jimmy rips off Polly’s clothes and stuffs her in a dress. Polly wears male clothes so this is a direct hit at her pride and humiliates her, as shes left there on the floor all alone in a dress. That brings us to how this scene starts. it starts with Polly on the floor sobbing in the dress, Thomas brings Theresa to comfort Polly right after he told Theresa what happened. Then Margret bring me (Sean) to the scene and I am quite shocked and want to find out who did it and what exactly happened, and so walks on Jimmy who of course I put 2 and 2 together and its clear he did it to her after she humiliated him. The scene escalates and me and Jimmy have a belt fight which ultimately I win declaring my dominance over him and keeping my title as “King of Bengal Street” as we’re fighting Prussia Street starts to stamp to declare they are coming and gradually gets louder, and louder until we can finally see them all on the bridge. We then group up and fall back as there is no way we can take them all on, however Thomas steps out of our ranks and charges at them with a knife, stabbing George and stabbing Joe twice. we join the fight and then run after all the fleeing Prussia Street gang members which is where I exit the stage.

Uta Hangens nine questions
1) Who am I?
I am Sean, King of Bengal Street, and leader of the Bengal Tigers Gang.
2) What time is it?
its Dawn, around 4:40 – 5-30 am
3) Where am I?
On the Street, on our side of the bridge.
4) What surrounds me?
Some of the Tigers at the start, Polly crying scrunched up on the floor. later on in the scene Prussia street come out and They are all their, all of their members are their.
5) What are the given circumstances?
Polly is crumpled in the street, she is bruised and bleeding, and she is wearing a dress that is ripped hanging half off her. Jimmy shows himself shortly after I show up and says that he did that to her. He didn’t sexually assault her, and Polly says that too, by his words he just wanted to “just wanted to slap you about. Like he had me slapped.” Jimmy challenges me as he thinks he should be the leader of the Bengal Tigers Gang. I tell Polly she is no longer allowed to be a Tiger, that she is too big now to continue to be a Tiger cub. Me and Jimmy have a belt fight, I hit him 3 times and he doesn’t hit me at all.
Once I beat Jimmy to the floor and re-assert my dominance over him and the gang, the whole Prussia Street gang shows up on the other side of the bridge. Every single last one.
They outnumber us at least 2 – 1. We start to back off because there is no way we can win this fight until Thomas steps out of our ranks and walks towards the enemy, and then pulls out a knife. Everyone is shocked that Thomas is carrying a knife apart from Theresa because she already knew he had it. Thomas starts to sprint and stabs George on the chest, slashes Joes side (Rib cage area) then stabs Joe in the back once he drops to the floor. Jimmy and I join in and stop George from getting up and then we run off after other Prussia Street members. Thomas follows us shortly after.
6) What are my relationships?
Me and Jimmy are not on good terms, however I put him in his place so I don’t have to worry that hell try anything again any time soon.
I want what’s best for Polly, even if that means kicking her out of the Tigers gang. I hate doing this but there’s no way around it. I still care for Polly, but Polly starts to resent and hate me.
Myself and Thomas are on good terms now. I fully respect him and now even fear him a bit for what he has just done.
I am still romantically interested in Theresa, however she does not feel the same for me.
Margret and I are closer than when we first met.
George is my enemy and that’s not changing if he has been stabbed or not.
I don’t know anything about Joe, not even his name.
7) What do I want?
At the start of the scene I want to find out who hurt Polly and, to put them in their place. once I put Jimmy in his place and Prussia Street come out to the bridge I want to protect my Gang and order them all to back off. At the end I want to finish what Thomas started.
8) What is in my way?
At the start nothing is in my way because Jimmy just shows himself to me.
Theresa is in my way when I try to back off with the rest as she’s just shouting and calling us cowards for not fighting an unwinnable fight, which then encourages Thomas to do something about it. The shock that Thomas has a knife and that he just used it to stab a man.
9) What do I do to get what I want?
I start to back off, but once Thomas deals the first two blows it kicks in that its either now or never, we are already in the middle of it so we need to finish what we started.
What are my units throughout the scene?
Unit 1
I heard very vaguely that something bad happened to Polly, so Margret rushes me to Polly so I can see what happened to her myself.
Unit 2
I take a moment to analyse Polly’s Injuries and to find out who did this to her.
Unit 3
I try to dig deeper, trying to controll myself and trying to figure out just how much Jimmy hurt her or what else he’s done to her.
Unit 4
I listen to Jimmy’s stupid points and listen to him tell me how I’m basically a bad leader and how he would be so much more of a better leader than me. So we prepare to have a fight to decide on who leads the Tigers.
Unit 5
I tell polly that she can’t be a tiger anymore, that she shouldn’t be a Tiger cub, because she’s too big now, and how Jimmy is right about that.
Unit 6
me and Jimmy start fighting. Jimmy is hot headed, careless and tactless so he swings his belt randomly and fast without even trying to beat me to the ground so it’s easy for me to see right through his attacks. Meanwhile all it takes for me is three clean hits to knock him to the ground and put him in his place. And all I need to do this is wait for an opening.
Unit 7
Prussia Street show themselves on the other side of the bridge averaging to having twice if not more people than us, so that is clearly an unwinnable fight for us. My only goal here at this point is to back off slowly to not make ourselves look like cowards running away a fight. However Thomas steps out of our ranks and starts advancing forwards. I think nothing of this at first. I don’t even notice him at first.
Unit 8
Thomas takes out a knife, shocked and in disbelief I stand and stare, I snap out of it and the reality of the situation I’m in only kicks in after Thomas stabs George and starts to move onto Joe.
Unit 9
Having just changed the entire tide of the battle we have to capitalise on this, there’s no getting out of it now. We’re in the thick of it so might aswell finish what we started. So we stop George from getting back up and running then we chase after the rest of the Prussia Street mob that has ran away.
My super objective when I first come on stage is to find out what happened to Lilly and once I understand what happened, it becomes to punish the person responsible. once Prussia Street shows up it is just to make sure we leave with our lives and dignity.

Sean’s fifth scene (80 -81)
(I do not have any lines in this scene) I come on stage just as Joe dies in the infirmary and i am left completely speechless throughout the scene as the police officer comes in and takes us away.

Uta Hagen’s nine questions
1) Who am I?
I am Sean, Leader of the Bengal Tigers Gang, and about to become a prisoner.
2) What time is it?
Dawn, turning night.
3) Where am I?
In an infirmary over on Prussia Streets territory.
4) What surrounds me?
Sick and injured people, and one dead. Nurses some Tiger members and soon a police officer.
5) What are the given circumstances?
Joe has died, George will live, but he is very badly injured.
6) What are my relationships?
Jimmy and I are back on good terms, I am impressed and scared of Thomas at the same time, I have never met Susan and am speechless about how Margret is helping her. I feel shattered when Polly comes in and gives us up to the police but I understand and feel no resentment towards her. I never met that police officer but I know exactly whats going to happen next and I am fine with it.
7) What do I want?
I want to see the damage we’ve caused and what are the casualties.
8) What is in my way?
Nothing, just the guilt of having been involved on Joe’s murder.
9) What do I do to get what I want?
I go into the infirmary and look upon all the injured gang members.
What are my Units throughout the scene?
Unit 1
I come in with the intention of looking at how much we injured our enemy, and see that Joe has died but George will live.
Unit 2
The policeman walks into the Infirmary and I know the drill, we’re going to get arrested and there’ no point resisting.
My super objective is to see the extent of the damage we’ve caused.

This is Sean’s final scene (83 – 86)
After getting arrested, me, Jimmy and Thomas are thrown into jail and just talk.

Uta Hagen’s nine questions
1) Who am I?
I am a prisoner, however still regarded as Sean the leader of the Bengal Tigers Gang.
2) What time is it?
Night time, 10 – 11 pm
3) Where am I?
I am in a prison cell.
4) What surrounds me?
Bricks, metal bars, Thomas and Jimmy.
5) What are the given circumstances?
It is night time, I genuinely respect Thomas now and any time I say Tommy or mention something about his dad its a genuine accident and i am just doing it out of habit. I am a bit scared of Thomas, I declare Thomas the King, only for tonight though. It is cold in the cell. The mills start working again.
6) What are my relationships?
I am once again pals with Jimmy, and I respect Thomas but I am also scared of him a bit.
7) What do I want to do?
I want to serve my sentence, and spend time with Thomas, as he might not have much time left.
8) What is in my way?
the police
9) What do I do to get what I want?
I chat with Thomas, get to know him better and serve my sentence.
What are my Units throughout the scene?
Unit 1
I’ve just been thrown into a prison cell. I am getting comfortable because it’s going to be a long night.
Unit 2
I make conversation with Thomas because he has earned all of my respect, but I accidentally call him Tommy which he really doesn’t like. I called him Tommy out of habit, not on purpose so I apologise. Then I try to make him feel better because he’s beating himself up for not being able to kill Joe with one hit.
Unit 3
Thomas tells us about his father but neither me or Jimmy remember his name. All that i remember is that he said he never met his father. Me and Jimmy try to figure out what’s going on with Thomas and his dad but Thomas takes this as us calling him a liar, when we’re not so we just let him talk. Thomas tells us about the letter his dad sent him.
Unit 4
I fully acknowledge Thomas as the king tonight.
Unit 5
it’s cold and I am trying to just get some rest and reflect on the fight earlier today.
Unit 6
I have reflected and thought about what would happen to all of us. Me and Jimmy have been in situations like this before and we have never killed anyone so we’ll most likely go free. But Thomas killed a man and severely injured another, so I’m wondering if they are going to hang him
Unit 7
The Mills have started to work again. As if time was stopped for us and has just started again now that it’s over.
My super objective is to serve my sentence and get out of there as fast as possible.
entrance: Stage Left
Exit: curtain close.
END OF PLAY
I will apply all of these units and Uta Hagen’s 9 questions to the corresponding scenes by showing my change in thought and action. By understanding all of the Uta Hagen’s 9 questions I will further understand the scene in question and the setting and how that would physically effect my character on how he moves himself, acts or stands.
