CONTEXT

We have started to work on Punk Rock and I’ve read the play, my first impression is a classic high school play with a dark twist at the end.

I have now read a lot more into to the play and psychology of the characters and I can say with certainty that almost every character in the play has some sort of psychological disorder, for example, the character that I am playing is Bennett, I have come to a conclusion that Bennett is a bit of a psychopath and sociopath since he shows symptoms of both throughout the play. All of these mental disorders in these teens cause them to go from one series of events to another eventually leading up to the shooting scene at the end.

The play is set in 2009, in a grammar school in Stockport, and our main cast of characters are in 6th form.

The play will be performed on the 19th of May 2021.

Character introductions

The leading role is William Carlisle, Lilly Cahill the exciting new transfer student, Bennett Francis the top dog, and school bully, Nicholas Chatman classic high school jock, Tanya Gleason mother figure of the group (also a prefect), Cissy Franks, Bennett’s girlfriend, and Chadwick Meade the nerd who always gets picked on, Lucy Francis, Bennett’s younger sister, and Dr. Harvey, the doctor in charge of William at the end of the play.

Demographic

The demographic for this performance will bee teenagers around the ages of 16 – 18, since there are some serious, and quite sensitive subjects mentioned it the play such as, self harm, mental illnesses, mental health, bullying, murder. (go to autumn commission -> unit 2 -> audience to learn more)

Casts

There will be 2 Casts for punk rock, we decided on this because there are three characters who are double casted, Bennett, Nicholas, and William. everyone was eager to do their own performance the whole way through so we decided to split up the casts into 2 instead of there being 2 different actors playing the same character one scene and then the next, switching every 1 or 2 scenes or so.
